Let’s Talk Prostate Health
November is Men's Health Month which makes now the perfect time to talk about prostate health.
As men age it's common for the prostate gland to grow larger. For many men, this natural ageing process doesn't pose any cause for concern or produce any noticeable symptoms, but for others it can cause serious discomfort.
It is estimated that one in five men over 50 experience symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. When enlarged the prostate pushes against the bladder and urinary tract often resulting in the following symptoms:
- frequent urination, often waking multiple times per night
- difficulty holding urination
- slow urinary flow, despite the feeling of a full bladder
- straining when urinating
- leaking after urination
- feeling like the bladder is not empty after urinating
Bladder discomfort is distressing, and over time can lead to urinary infections. In addition, waking multiple times a night to urinate can impact sleep which then impacts other areas of health and wellbeing.
Prostate health is something that needs to continue to be talked about, so that men get the help and support they need to feel better.
